Select Project:

U.S. Highway One Pompano Beach

Between NE 16th Street and NE 4th Street

This streetscape enhancement project was completed in 2000 for the Florida Department of Transportation and the City of Pompano Beach. With a landscape budget of $700,000, the project has proven to be a major catalyst for the ongoing re-development efforts of this downtown area. Cotleur & Hearing, Inc. was responsible for the design and construction administration of the project including all landscape, irrigation and hardscape elements. The design features include a lush, tropical landscape treatment with Coconut, Thatch and Medjool Date Palms as the theme elements. Brick paver maintenance strips of varying sizes and widths were designed at 60° angles to the curbs. These areas not only provide visual interest to the motorist, but are very functional because they provide space for landscape maintenance activities to be conducted outside of the roadway. To minimize the periodic maintenance required in the medians, sod was eliminated, and all green spaces were planted with shrubs and ground covers. The irrigation system utilizes reuse water, thereby, helping to conserve this limited resource.
