Our seasoned staff include landscape architects, designers, graphic designers, planners and environmental specialists. This dedicated team utilizes a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving and has produced award-winning results.

Whether forging through a wetland conducting environmental assessments, analyzing and building GIS (Geographic Information Systems) maps, designing and building landscape projects or planning the next residential or commercial destination, you can count on Cotleur & Hearing to accomplish the task.

Our Founders

Robert Cotleur and Donaldson Hearing have been practicing Landscape Architecture in South Florida for over 30 years. Both graduated with honors at the top of their respective classes and have won scholastic and professional awards in their field. In May 1991, they started the firm of Cotleur & Hearing Inc., focusing their expertise and energy on landscape architecture, land planning and the rapidly growing field of environmental design.

Rob Cotleur is co-owner and Vice President of Cotleur & Hearing Landscape Architects, Land Planners and Environmental Consultants. Rob has practiced landscape architecture in Palm Beach County for over thirty years. He has developed considerable knowledge of the South Florida ecology while participating in numerous planning, design, environmental and construction administration projects. Over the past decade, Mr. Cotleur has come to specialize in transportation projects to the point where they now account for over ninety percent of his work.

Rob’s professional affiliations are with the American Society of Landscape Architects, Sigma Lambda Alpha, National Honor Society, State of Florida Registered Landscape Architect, and Jupiter Beach Enhancement Committee member.

Rob is a state of Florida registered landscape architect and Cum Laude Honor Graduate from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree. Mr. Cotleur resides in Jupiter, Florida along with his daughter and son.

Don Hearing is Owner and President of Cotleur & Hearing Land Planning and Landscape Architecture with over 30 years of experience in these disciplines. He has been practicing in South Florida since 1982. Don was raised in South Florida and is a state of Florida registered landscape architect. He is a honor graduate from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree and a certified LEED Accredited Professional

In 2011, the American Institute of Architects recognized Don as Landscape Architect of the Year for Palm Beach County. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Community Leader of the Year Award presented by the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce. In 2023, Cotleur & Hearing was named one of the top Gator 100 Businesses by the University of Florida.  In 2024,  Don received the Distinguished Landscape Architect of the Year from the University of Florida, his alma mater.

Don also serves as managing partner of Cotleur & Hearing Investments, a real estate development and acquisition company.

Don served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for the Palm Beach North Chamber of Commerce and the Business Development Board of Palm Beach Co. He was the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in 2015. Don is a Director for the PGA Corridor Association, the Business Development Board, and serves on the Board for MyClinic.  In the past, he has also served on the boards for The Lighthouse Center for the Arts and Jupiter Christian School.

In conjunction with his business interests, Don is actively involved in numerous charitable organizations which include Christ Fellowship Church, Jupiter Christian School, The Place of Hope and the West Jupiter Tutorial Center to name a few.

Don and his wife, Suzanne, reside in Jupiter. They have three daughters.

Erin Bolin is a senior level landscape architect and a partner with Cotleur & Hearing. Erin works on a variety of projects including high-end, residential design with a focus on pool, hardscape and landscape design. She is also involved with site and landscape planning for medium-size, residential communities and commercial projects. Ms. Bolin works in cooperation with the staff planner and principal landscape architect to ensure a positive outcome on every project.   In addition to excellence in design, Erin places an emphasis on graphic ability, readability and rendering.

Nicole Plunkett, PLA, ASLA

While attending the University of Florida, Nicole interned with Cotleur & Hearing during the summer of 2008 and 2009, where she gained valuable experience within residential design. After graduating from the University of Florida in 2010, Nicole was hired at Cotleur & Hearing as a full time landscape architect and in 2019 became a partner in the company.  She has experience working with multiple site and landscape plan submittals throughout Palm Beach County, representing projects throughout the public hearing process to gain approvals and code compliance. She has also been responsible for creating mapping and informational graphics within GIS for due diligence reports and environmental studies for a number of projects within South Florida. She works on a broad variety of projects throughout Palm Beach County and leads project teams from the very beginning of a project through final construction.

In 2017, Nicole was selected to participate in the 2017-2018 inaugural Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) Fellowship for Innovation + Leadership and awarded $25,000. During her Fellowship, she worked on the replication and scalability of Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA), a non-profit organization founded by Nicole which focuses on educating K-12 students about the career field of landscape architecture. She was also honored with the 2017 Exceptional Emerging Professional Award by the American Society of Landscape Architects Florida Chapter (ASLA FL).

Aaron Wilbur began his career working at Cottage Gardens, Inc. in 2009, a residential design build firm located in Gainesville, Florida. At Cottage Gardens, Aaron functioned as the lead designer and project manager. In March 2013, Aaron joined the Cotleur & Hearing team and became a partner in 2019Aaron brings an eagerness to learn and the ability to adapt quickly to new types of projects and computer programs. To date, he has worked on several county and city submittals, two large neighborhood development projects and has completed numerous FDOT and county roadway projects. Aaron is currently working on several FDOT projects as a member of the firm’s transportation division. He has quickly become an expert in the FDOT’s electronic delivery process and provides construction inspection services, including locating and approving of plant materials.

Leah Heinzelmann, ASLA

Leah Heinzelmann traveled over 1,500 miles to begin her career as a landscape designer at Cotleur & Hearing in June of 2016. She is a Wisconsin native who attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and graduated with a double major in landscape architecture and music performance. Leah works under the supervision of project manager, Daniel Sorrow, and helps design site plans, landscape plans, and renderings in Port St. Lucie and Martin County. Leah is a team player and has become especially skilled in large-scale master planning, site planning, and graphic design in her time at Cotleur & Hearing. In June of 2023, Leah was promoted to Associate Partner of Cotleur & Hearing. Her promotion is a significant step forward for our company’s strategic plan, and reflects her exceptional dedication and expertise.

George Missimer graduated from Florida State University in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in environment and society and a minor in biology. After graduation, George began working with Cotleur & Hearing as a planning technical under one of Cotleur & Hearing project managers. George assists on a variety of residential and commercial projects in Indian River County, St. Lucie County, Martin County and Palm Beach County. George grew up in Martin County and has strong ties to the community and has a desire to help influence the way South Florida develops in the future. As of June, 2023, George has been promoted to Associate Partner of Cotleur & Hearing. His promotion is a significant step forward for our company’s strategic plan and reflects his exceptional dedication and expertise.

Born in Stratford Ontario Canada, Gregg Byrick began his career in landscaping at the age of 16 with the largest landscape contracting company in his native Southern Ontario. Working as a groundskeeper for several large corporate campuses, hospitals and historical sites, Gregg developed his passion for landscape design.

After graduating at the top of his class from the University of Guelph, Ontario in 1996, Gregg moved to West Palm Beach to begin his career in Landscape Architecture. For the past 24 years, he has worked in the field of Landscape Architecture as a Senior Project Manager, Designer and Operations Manager for several firms, creating exquisite designs for exclusive residential clients as well as residential, commercial developments and governmental agencies. Gregg joined Cotleur & Hearing in March of this year. Greg recently became a LIAF Certified Landscape Inspector. With his positive attitude and years of experience, Gregg has quickly become an integral part of our design team.

A native New Yorker and long-time resident of Palm Beach County, Donna has worked over 35 years in the planning and development industry, having worked through the development and build out of such projects as BallenIsles in Palm Beach Gardens, and most notably, Abacoa in Jupiter. Along with her vast work experience, Ms. Cesaro holds an Associates Degree in Business Management from the University of Farmingdale, in New York State. Donna joined Cotleur & hearing in February bringing her extensive employment experience which has covered many aspects of development operations from executive administration and planning coordination to entitlement processing, construction contract administration and permitting. Sarah Dark joined Cotleur & Hearing early in her design career in 2012.  With a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from The University of Florida and a certificate of graphic design,  she has the content knowledge and design skills that allow her to contribute a high-quality design product. At Cotleur & Hearing, Sarah collaborates with landscape architects and planners to develop architectural elevations, site plan renderings as well as company marketing and advertising materials. In 2013, she relocated to North Florida where she works remotely from her home office in Atlantic Beach and maintains her role as lead graphic designer.

Sarah currently serves on the City of Atlantic Beach’s Beautification & Natural Resource Preservation Advisory Committee and is the lead graphic designer for Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA) since its founding in 2015.

Jessica Dunstan has worked as a project manager for Cotleur & Hearing since 2000.  She brings a special viewpoint and expertise to CH as she is originally from the Jupiter area.  Jessica primarily focuses her efforts on working with developers and engineers to create conceptual site plans for large-scale residential projects throughout Palm Beach County and St. Lucie County.  Additional project experience includes commercial site planning and design along with construction administration.  Some of her notable projects are Divosta’s Mallory Creek and Windsor Park within Abacoa.  Jessica studied chemistry at Florida State University and has a background in environmental studies.

Jennifer Eaton attended Palm Beach State College and started her drafting career while still in high school. She has over 20 years of valued experience as an expert AutoCAD technician and gained her knowledge from her extensive work in several disciplines of the construction and development industry. Jennifer is enthusiastic about landscape architecture and happily prepares site, landscape and irrigation plans for our landscape architects and planners for final approval and permitting. Vaughan Johnson’s passion for plants and design began at 15 while working at a local greenhouse in his home state of Minnesota. An avid outdoorsman and Eagle Scout, he spent much of his youth camping and exploring nature. He later pursued a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Minnesota, which led him to join Cotleur & Hearing’s transportation team in September 2024.

Outside of work, Vaughan enjoys weightlifting, playing piano, cultivating a variety of plants, and spending quality time with friends and family.

Rutusha Nagaraj Kapini is from Bangalore, India and joined Cotleur & Hearing in August, training under landscape architect and partner,  Erin Bolin. She graduated with a Master of Landscape Architecture in May 2020 from Florida International University. Her FIU projects and involvement have gained recognition by FIU, ASLA, and a national award by EPA. She also has a bachelor’s degree in architecture from India & was honored with a “Gold Medal” for highest academic record amongst 1000+ graduating students throughout the state in 2017. Her undergraduate thesis “Verti-Farms” focused on integrating farming and architecture to eliminate the food crisis, which won national awards in India. Furthermore, “Dr. Dickson Despommier” – Emeritus professor at Columbia University also known as the father of vertical farming, shared his inputs and posted about it on Twitter. Experience in architectural practices led her to explore the relationship between buildings and the space framed outside of it. Growing up she was introduced to art & culture by her parents, both practicing award-winning architects & planners in India. They encouraged her keen interests in art which guided her to participate in art contests and also exhibit her artwork in multiple countries like India, UK, Poland, Australia, and the United States. Her work was featured in the UNESCO calendar of 2005. She keeps her website up to date with her art, doodles, and more. Rutusha enjoys swimming, playing tennis and has a keen interest in numismatics. Looking ahead she aims to explore how art, culture, and landscape architecture engage through sustainable practices as she learns in the professional field at Cotleur & Hearing.

Ericka joined Cotleur & Hearing in 2023 as a Contract Administrator and Accounts Receivable Manager. A native Ohioan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and an Associate’s Degree in Marketing, Ericka brings 20 years’ worth of administrative and customer service experience at various levels from various industries. Her primary responsibilities include creating, executing, and managing all proposals and contracts as well as focusing on open receivables to ensure timely payment. Her attention to detail and organizational skills allows her to assist other departments by finding or creating more efficient methods to optimize productivity. Heather Kinked  has worked as a landscape architect/designer for thirteen years. She moved to Florida and became employed with Cotleur & Hearing in February of 2005. Since her employment at Cotleur & Hearing, she has had the opportunity to work on numerous commercial, residential and transportation landscape projects, becoming especially skilled in the development transportation landscape plans and permits for Palm Beach County and the Florida Department of Transportation. She has also become skilled in plan review for FDOT projects, construction administration and site inspections as many of her projects come to successful fruition.

He is responsible for implementing intricate landscape and hardscape design. Yskins has worked on a diverse range of projects including luxury resorts, single family estates and large communities. Some of the projects Yskins has overseen include the Alton Clubhouse in Jupiter, The Towers at Biscayne Bay in Coral Gables, Berumudiana Shopping Center in Jupiter as well as luxury estate properties in Palm Beach Polo Club in Wellington, Jupiter Island, Admiral’s Cove in Jupiter and Palm Beach. Brittany McInnis joined Cotleur & Hearing as a Property Management Bookkeeper in 2023.  Brittany is a native Floridian and Massachusetts hybrid; graduating from Bridgewater State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.  Brittany works under the supervision of Financial Manager, Sandra Bruorton.  As a member of the Cotleur & Hearing Team, she handles the bookkeeping and partial property management of several commercial entities across Martin and Palm Beach Counties.  After taking some time off to raise her young family, Brittany is excited to once again pursue her passion in finances and management. Maegan Mikkelson joined Cotleur & Hearing in September as a Landscape Designer, training under landscape architect and partner Erin Bolin. With a Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a Bachelor’s in Plant Science from the University of Florida, Maegan is dedicated to celebrating and enhancing local ecosystems.

Her passion began in 2017 when she founded the Adopt a Mangrove Foundation, where she oversaw the propagation and planting of approximately 12,000 mangrove trees in southwest Florida. Her work included organizing site planting days on Lee County’s 20/20 Conservation Land, where she planned estuary rehabilitation and wetland planting zones. Maegan also created and managed informational content for the foundation, demonstrating her commitment to community engagement and environmental education.

In May of this year, Maegan completed the Resilient Sanibel Project, a Graduate Terminal Thesis aimed at supporting the coastal element of the City of Sanibel’s Comprehensive Plan. The 2026 revision emphasizes environmental stewardship and coastal resiliency. Collaborating with the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation and as an awardee of the Pfiefer Fellowship, Maegan’s project contributes to preliminary studies of the plan, offering research-based solutions and actionable recommendations to mitigate risks from sea-level rise and preserve local coastal habitats.

Looking ahead, Maegan aims to continue contributing to projects that honor and protect Florida’s natural landscapes as she develops professionally at Cotleur & Hearing.

Juan Carlos A. Oriz Ocasio joined Cotleur & Hearing in  July 2019 as a landscape designer. He joined the firm after more than ten years of experience growing up and serving in different roles in a family owned design build landscape firm in Puerto Rico. During his time there, he had the opportunity to lead to many projects to completion for the private and public sector. Juan Carlos has a bachelor’s degree in Argo-Environmental Sciences from the University of Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in landscape architecture from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. As part of the landscape architecture team, Juan Carlos specializes in irrigation design, creating efficient and sustainable water management systems that enhance plant health and conserve resources.

Rebecca Ortiz has worked in the urban landscaping field for over twelve years with eleven of those years at Cotleur & Hearing. She is involved from the initial design development process and has interest in the design aspect of landscape architecture and site layout. She works directly with principal landscape architects and planners through the site development concept process and drafts site and landscape plans for the company. Rebecca likes to envision the overall big picture and is proficient with AutoCAD. Some of her most notable projects include The Quaye Palm Beach Gardens and Wellington, The Center for Intelligent Buildings at Alton and The Barcelona Apartments in Jupiter.

Paul Scotford is an accomplished architectural drafter with a keen eye for detail and a passion for turning architectural concepts into precise, detailed plans. With extensive experience in drafting and design, Paul excels at using CAD software to create accurate blueprints that support innovative and functional architectural projects.
Currently working as a Cad Drafter at Cotleur and Hearing, Paul is responsible for producing high-quality technical drawings and collaborating closely with architects to ensure design accuracy and compliance with building codes. His expertise in drafting, combined with a deep understanding of architectural principles, enables him to contribute effectively to both residential and commercial projects.
Paul is known for his commitment to excellence, efficiency, and his ability to adapt to evolving project requirements.
Outside of work, he enjoys Triathlon participating in Ironman events, and is enthusiastic about raising funds for children’s cancer research through participating in the Great Cycle Challenge the past 5 years.

Summer Stevens joined Cotleur & Hearing as a Land Use Planner in 2024. She graduated from the University of Florida with a master’s degree in Sustainable Design, focusing on social, ecological, and environmental issues related to resilient and regenerative planning and urbanism. Summer earned her bachelor’s degree in Urban Design from Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning in 2018.
Summer’s passion for planning and design grew through her time spent living and traveling abroad. Experiencing cities with unique architectural styles, sustainable practices, and vibrant public spaces inspired her to explore how design can enhance quality of life. From cities that prioritize walkability and public transport to serene green spaces integrated into urban landscapes, each destination highlighted the importance of thoughtful planning.
In 2022, Summer presented her master’s research project, “Walking Towards a Sustainable Future for Urban Design,” at the Architectural Research Centers Consortium in Miami, hosted by FIU. Now at Cotleur & Hearing, she is involved in a diverse range of projects across Palm Beach County, where she continues to apply her passion for sustainable planning and design.

Ella Stone, a proud Jupiter local, began her professional journey at Cotleur & Hearing in May 2024 as a summer Planning Intern. Upon completing her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science at Florida State University in just three years, she transitioned into a full-time role as an Environmental Technician/Planner with the firm. In her role, Ella works under the guidance of Project Manager George Missimer and collaborates with Cotleur & Hearing’s planning and landscape design teams on a variety of environmental projects. Ella assists with navigating the environmental permitting process and her understanding of ecology and sustainability enables her to ensure that development projects not only comply with regulatory standards but also promote long-term environmental health and resilience.

Outside of work, Ella continues to fuel her love for nature and exploration, having hiked numerous trail systems in Florida and ventured into mountain landscapes beyond the state. Her commitment to environmental conservation drives her dedication to performing detailed, precise work that adheres to regulatory standards, ensuring meaningful, lasting impacts in her field. Christina Vivona is a University of Florida graduate passionate about the way designed landscapes and public spaces shape our world and experiences. She grew up in Vero Beach and has a great appreciation for native and coastal Florida landscapes, as well as creating them to share with the greater community to enjoy. With over 6 years of professional experiences, Christina joined the team in 2024, bringing with her an eye for landscape and hardscape design, as well as conceptual planning and graphic representation for projects spanning throughout the Treasure Coast where she has spent much of her life. McKenna West joined Cotleur & Hearing in 2023 as a Land Planner. McKenna holds a Master’s Degree in Urban & Regional Planning and a Bachelor’s in Interdisciplinary Social Science, both from Florida State University. She has a broad range of experience in planning for the public and private sectors, having worked for local government as a planner, and started her own land planning consulting company. McKenna works on a variety of development projects in Palm Beach County, specializing in land use issues, community engagement, and GIS mapping projects. She decided to become an Urban Planner because of her passion for people and improving social conditions through sense of place. Her specialization areas are rooted in her appreciation for community and social development. Her graduate thesis project, a community development initiative, for which she served as the project manager, won awards and gained honorable recognition from the Florida Redevelopment Association and the Florida Chapter of the American Planning Association.
