Girls STEAM Day 2025: Inspiring Future Designers

Cotleur & Hearing proudly participated in the Women’s Foundation of Florida’s 2025 Girls STEAM Day on Saturday, November 15 at Lake Worth Middle School. As part of the Foundation’s Girls Leadership Institute and STEAM Academy initiatives, this annual program introduces middle and high school girls to career pathways in science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, and design.

Future Landscape Architects of America (FLAA), founded by Cotleur & Hearing Co-President Nicole Plunkett and currently celebrating its 10-year anniversary, led a hands-on community design workshop for 36 students. Participants worked in small groups to imagine a community while learning how land planning and landscape architecture influence the character and function of the built environment. Many students shared that this was their first introduction to landscape architecture as a profession.

The Cotleur & Hearing team was represented by Nicole Plunkett, Hayden Bertone, Laurey Hood, and intern Melissa Espinoza. Industry partners Austin Scott from Insite Studio and Meredith Leigh from Shutts and Bowen LLP also contributed valuable real world perspective throughout the workshop. Supporting early STEAM exposure and encouraging young women to explore careers in design, planning, and the built environment remains an important focus for Cotleur & Hearing. The firm is grateful to the Women’s Foundation of Florida for hosting such a meaningful program and looks forward to future collaborations that continue to inspire future designers and planners across the region.
